Who We  Are

While we’ve been neighbors in Lakeview for 50+ years, we did not meet until we began working together in the Nassau County Police Departments Communications Bureau (911 Operators) in 1991! In November 2000, Lynn left 911 and took an  Administrative Job. In January 2004, Lynn was Promoted and became the First African American
Communications Bureau Supervisor. She was immediately assigned as the head of the Alarm Permit Section. AND then what do you think happened? Wendy was assigned full time into the Alarm Permit Section!! Lol Anyway, we continued to play...I mean work together ‘til Lynn retired in July 2023! Note: We are STILL inseparable!

It started as just a Brunch and it has turned into so much more! From the proceeds of our Brunches, we immediately began helping those in need! We have sponsored Women from the Bethany House Women’s Shelter, Provided catered meals for the Women & Children, Sponsored Our Women Veterans, Provided meals to the hungry by way of Fast
Food Gift Cards/Certificates, Provided a Bowling Party for deserving Girl Scouts from impoverished areas, Donated food baskets during The Thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays to families from local Elementary and High Schools, We organized a Toy Shopping Spree for the Roosevelt School District where we partnered with the Nassau County Guardians to have 20 Children bussed to Matty’s Toy Store where each child was given a $100 voucher to shop. In addition, we have been able to make a financial
donation to other organizations that are “doing the work”, Powerhouse Church, A Child Beyond (Children with Autism) and H.A.N.A (Haitian American Nurses Association). This year we have formed a Scholarship Fund!! The goal is to Award 3 young women of African Descent that has Achieved Academic Excellence on 3 different levels...a High School Senior, an Undergraduate and Postgraduate.

In 2019, Lynn presented an idea to Wendy about having a Brunch and after throwing

around ideas and names, Simply Sistah’s was formed! Our 1st Brunch was held in 2020 at Havana Central in East Garden City and we had approximately 100 attendees and immediately outgrew the venue. In 2021 We booked the Capital Grille in East Garden City and it was canceled due to Covid. In 2022 our Brunch was held at the Capital Grille and we had 300+ attendees and immediately
outgrew the venue. In 2023 our Brunch was held at the City Cellar in Westbury and we had approximately 400 attendees and again we outgrew the venue! It was then that we realized there was not a restaurant large enough for us. In 2024 our Brunch was held at the Heritage Club and we had 500 attendees!!! 2025 we  were at the Heritage Club again we had 500+  women in attendance!  Some say we will soon need to get the Colisseum or the Javits Center!
